The Cinque Terre could only be reached by sea or foot until the beginning of
last century.
Today they are easily accessible either by train or car. You can drive to all
five villages but cars are not permitted beyond the entrance of each town (up
to one km away from the center) and parking lots are scarce.
The local La Spezia-Genova trains are regular and by far the most convenient
and economical way to get to and around the Cinque Terre.
The trains between La Spezia and Genova depart once or twice every hour.
